Bergantino Amps & Cabs: Hear Everything

Jim Bergantino didn't start with amplifiers. He started with cabinets — and built a reputation, out of Massachusetts, for boxes so accurate and so efficient that engineers and players started using them as the reference everything else got judged against. The amps came later, built to the same standard. Bergantino's whole philosophy fits in two words: hear everything — the bass, the room, the truth — with headroom to spare.

At Bass Central, our Bergantino wall is compact but complete: the flagship head, both cabinet families, and the preamp that puts the whole Bergantino universe on your pedalboard. Here's the rig, in plain English.

The head: Forte HP2 Ultra

The Forté HP2 Ultra is the current flagship: 2000 watts into 4 ohms (1000 into 8), so headroom simply stops being a conversation. It carries the Forté HP feature set — a responsive 4-band EQ, Bergantino's Variable Ratio Compressor, and lo-pass/hi-pass filters — with firmware re-tuned for the Ultra's power module. Clean, crystal-clear, and punchy at any volume you dare use. $1,895, in stock.

The cabinets: two families, two flavors

HPN (High Power Neodymium) — The lightweight heavy-hitters. Neo drivers keep the weight down while power handling goes up: the HPN212 handles 1000 watts and weighs just 43 lbs, with a reference compression-driver tweeter on a constant-directivity horn when you want the top end to speak. Sizes run 1x12, 2x10, and 2x12, in Black or Burgundy.

Reference II — The classic voice. Ceramic-magnet drivers in Baltic birch baffles, voiced warmer and rounder — the old-school thump, built to modern Bergantino tolerances. The 1x15 (400 watts, 46 lbs) is the one for players who feel bass as much as hear it; there's a 1x12 alongside it.

The two families stack and match freely — an HPN212 under an HP2 Ultra is a rig that will cover any stage you'll ever stand on, and a Reference II 115 pairs with either for the vintage end.

The Super Pre: the whole universe, pedalboard-sized

Jim Bergantino's amps in a box the size of a cigar box: the Super Pre packs his EQ, compression, and a full range of drive — from clean enhancement to overdrive and fuzz — into a floor preamp/DI for stage or studio. If you've ever wanted the Bergantino front end without changing your amp, this is it. $719, in stock. (Already running a Forté HP? The Bluetooth footswitch for it is $185.)

Which Bergantino rig is right for you?

  • One rig for everything — HP2 Ultra + HPN212. 2000 watts, 1000-watt cab, 43 lbs. Done deliberating.
  • Small stages, big tone — HPN112 or HPN210: neo-light, reference tweeter, and loud far past their size.
  • Vintage warmth, modern build — Reference II 115 (or the 1x12), alone or under an HPN for a best-of-both stack.
  • You love your amp but want the Bergantino sound — Super Pre in front of it, or straight to the board as your DI.
